Big D Lumber Company owner, Garett Cockrell began framing houses with his uncle as a teenager in Amarillo. His uncle moved to Albuquerque and Garret began his own framing company while still in high school.

Garett then moved to Dallas in order to grow his framing company. He began doing estimating on the side for Big D Lumber which led to his working with one of their clients doing estimating, bidding & project management.

In 2004, Garret began his career in lumber sales and two years later began working for Big D Lumber. After moving to a corporate job in lumber, Garret found that the owner of Big D Lumber wanted to retire. In 2019, he purchased Big D Lumber and now has closed on his third location in Burleson in addition to Richardson and Haslet. What goes around, comes around and Garret has also purchased the framing company that he worked for before getting into the lumber business.

J. Robison Hays, III is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ashford Hospitality Trust (NYSE: AHT) and the Senior Managing Director of Ashford (NYSE American: AINC). He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Ashford Trust.

Rob has nearly two decades of business experience operating and growing companies, including 15 years of real estate experience. Previously, he served as Chief Strategy Officer for Ashford, Ashford Trust and Braemar Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: BHR) as well as Co-President for Ashford. Prior to these roles he held the position of Senior Vice President Corporate Finance & Strategy for Ashford Trust and Braemar Hotels & Resorts.

Rob has been responsible for leading the execution of key strategic and operating initiatives, overseeing financial analyses related to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, refinancing, hedging, capital market transactions and major capital outlays. Prior to 2013, in addition to his other responsibilities, Rob was in charge of Ashford Trust’s investor relations efforts.
